This is the largest fair in Southeast Europe in the area of apiculture.  Last year there were 120 companies from Bulgaria, Italy, Poland, Turkey and other countries presented.

Direct subsidies for beekeepers in the EU programming period are not provided. Overall, however, the debate on the new Common Agricultural Policy, which leads to after 2013, almost all countries, including Bulgaria, proposed to be changed and beekeepers also benefit from direct subsidies, the minister said. Beekeeping should be supported with EU funds in the first pillar of the CAP, he said.

Minister Naydenov said that the National Programme for beekeeping are provided EUR 19.6 million for the period 2011 – 2013 Beekeepers may be assisted in various measures of the Programme for Rural Development.

With 11.2 percent increased honey production in the country last year compared to 2009 In 2010, total production was 10,595 tons. Exports of honey I also grew by 39.6%. Last year exported 8,540 tons of honey.

In 2010 the number of farms growing colonies was 27 477.

Characteristic of the sector is the large number of small producers, while the number of professional beekeepers, growers and more than 150 colonies is small. The trend from previous years of reductions in the farm, keeping a small number of colonies (1 to 9 pcs.). They now represent 43% of the total number of farms, which is 7% less than in 2006 when the number represented 50% of all apiaries in the country. In 44% of farms growing to 50 colonies and grown 11.6% between 50 and 149 families. There is a slight improvement of holdings grown over 150 families.

According to department “Agrostatistics” MAF in 2010 existing colonies in the country is 613,262 units, which is 1,9% less than their number in 2009. This indicates that the drastic reduction in the number of colonies at the time was not observed.

Traditionally, the greatest number of bee families are Dobrich, followed by Burgas and Pleven in third place.

The trend towards increasing the average realized price of honey, the highest average selling price for direct sales to end-user and reached EUR 5.72 per kilogram.

According to department “Agrostatistics” destroyed by poisoning were 11,147 colonies from diseases – 14,096, 11,444 from hunger and other causes – 36 221. The total number of colonies destroyed in 2010 amounted to 72,908, which is 33% more than in 2009 but lower than in 2008 when they destroyed 84,088 colonies.

Varroasis remains the most common and most economically important disease in Bulgaria. In 2010, 606,949 were treated colonies, which is 99% of the total.

In 2010 the first complete implementation of the National Beekeeping Programme 2008-2010 for the entire three-year period, the Bulgarian beekeepers received financial assistance amounting to 5,021,296 leva average utilization of the budget period is almost 70% by observed a strong interest in the second and third year of implementation of measures under the program.

To meet the increased interest in the approved on 14.09.2010 by the Commission “National apiculture program for the new three-year period 2011 2013.” Enshrined threefold greater financial resources compared to the previous program (2008 – 2010 .), and includes new measures. The total budget approved by the Commission for the second programming period amounted to 19 million and 600 thousand BGN

Another scheme is the European Programme for Rural Development 2007-2013, Beekeeping is supported by funding projects:

Along with the aforementioned European schemes, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food annually helps sector “Beekeeping” by its inclusion in national schemes in the form of State aid to the stud book and to determine the genetic merit and productivity of animals, and by applying the credit scheme of the Fund for investment in agriculture – direction “Animal.”

PRODUCTS: 
2 eggs 
1 cup sugar 
1 cup sunflower oil 
100-200 gr honey 
2 teaspoons baking soda 
2 teaspoons cinnamon 
flour as you take 
1 cup milk 
1 cup chopped nuts 
butter

Note: If you don’t want to use sugar, you can skip it and put more honey – 400-500 gr.

PREPARATION: 
Mix together eggs,  sugar, sunflower oil,  honey, baking soda, cinnamon and flour as necessary to obtain a soft dough. Make dough balls, which should have the size of small nuts. Place the balls into a greased baking pan with oil prior to 2 fingers away from each other. Bake. After baking,  hollow the cookies in the middle. To the crumbs add one cup milk, one cup chopped nuts, a little butter and mix it. Fill the honey cookies with the prepared cream and stick them together in pairs.
